About ADHD/ADD
There are many routes to take when trying to get a clear diagnosis of your child's inability to maintain themselves in school or manage impulsive behavior. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) can both be effectively treated by our pediatricians at Village Pediatrics in Plano, TX. Our experienced doctors start the process to an ADHD or ADD diagnosis first by asking specific questions about your child in and outside of the classroom. Having the inability to focus the brain on schoolwork is only a small piece of the ADHD/ADD puzzle. There are numerous factors to look at, such as why your child is easily distracted, has poor impulse control, and much more. We want to help your child succeed academically, and socially by getting him or her targeted support with or without medication. To learn more about what a diagnosis of ADHD/ADD means, please call and schedule an appointment with us today.

Conditions and Symptoms
ADHD
When your child is diagnosed with ADHD, you may see some of these behaviors:
- Trouble maintaining behavior in the classroom and at home
- Disorderly conduct in the classroom and at home
- Fidgety at their desk
- Trouble staying on the subject at hand
- Becoming incredibly frustrated with multi-step tasks
Children who have ADHD will not only have trouble in the classroom, but at home and in social situations, as well. This condition is not limited to learning. A child who has ADHD will suffer setbacks in many aspects of his or her young life without proper treatment and care.
ADD
Without the hyperactivity component to ADD, the difference between the two disorders is minimal. A child with ADD will have the inability to focus on school or homework, great difficulty staying on task, becomes easily frustrated when assignments seem overwhelming, and much more. Regardless of ADD or ADHD, both conditions are treatable with the same kinds of medication from your pediatrician, such as stimulants, non-stimulants, and anti-depressants.
Recommended Treatments
Your child’s primary care provider (pediatrician), psychiatrist, or clinical psychologist can prescribe and manage ADHD and ADD medication for your diagnosed child. They may also make recommendations for the child’s diet, nutritional supplements, sleep schedule, therapy, and more to get the most out of your medication regimen.

FOcused Attention On our Kids
Our pediatric office recommends that parents with children who exhibit ADHD/ADD symptoms document where they see their child having the most trouble. The child’s teacher may also have some input into whether or not the child has problems in the classroom setting with focus and behavior. We will do our best to help your child get the right diagnosis and make recommendations based on the findings. We are here to help. Please call and set up an appointment to get started today.
