Conditions and Symptoms
When your child is diagnosed with ADHD, you may see some of these behaviors:
- Trouble maintaining behavior in the classroom and at home
- Disorderly conduct in the classroom and at home
- Fidgety at their desk
- Trouble staying on the subject at hand
- Becoming incredibly frustrated with multi-step tasks
Children who have ADHD will not only have trouble in the classroom, but at home and in social situations, as well. This condition is not limited to learning. A child who has ADHD will suffer setbacks in many aspects of his or her young life without proper treatment and care.
Without the hyperactivity component to ADD, the difference between the two disorders is minimal. A child with ADD will have the inability to focus on school or homework, great difficulty staying on task, becomes easily frustrated when assignments seem overwhelming, and much more. Regardless of ADD or ADHD, both conditions are treatable with the same kinds of medication from your pediatrician, such as stimulants, non-stimulants, and anti-depressants.
Your child’s primary care provider (pediatrician), psychiatrist, or clinical psychologist can prescribe and manage ADHD and ADD medication for your diagnosed child. They may also make recommendations for the child’s diet, nutritional supplements, sleep schedule, therapy, and more to get the most out of your medication regimen.
