A Parent’s Guide to Telehealth Visits

Telehealth visits allow your child safely to connect with their pediatrician from the comfort and convenience of home.

While telehealth visits are not a new concept for Village Pediatrics, we understand it comes with several differences your child may not be used to — especially if they haven’t visited a doctor virtually before. Telehealth visits can help when your child is too sick to get out of bed, for follow-up visits, to develop asthma action plans, get medication refills, and to evaluate conditions like rashes and bug bites. If you aren’t sure if you should schedule a telehealth visit or an in-office visit, please text our Plano office at (469) 382-3796 or our Frisco office at (972) 525-7381 or click here. Our friendly team can help you determine the best visit type for your child’s specific situation.

Here’s what you need to know for your child’s next telehealth appointment:

Telehealth hours. In addition to virtually seeing your child during normal operating hours, we can also see them virtually on Saturdays from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. If you would like to schedule a telehealth appointment, you may click here then select your preferred pediatrician and directly book with them using our easy online scheduler. You may also text our Plano office at (469) 382-3796 or our Frisco office at (972) 525-7381.

You will receive the following communications to help you prepare for your child’s telehealth visit. Two days before your visit, you will receive a reminder by text. The day before your appointment, you will receive a text with instructions regarding your appointment. If you are scheduling via phone, we will review instructions with you at that time, and instructions will also be included in a text with the visit link. We will make sure you have access to your child’s patient portal and/or the Healow App to attend your child’s telehealth visit.

Is your child a new patient? If your child is a brand new patient to Village Pediatrics, or if you have never accessed the patient portal before, we will sign you up and provide further instructions.

Your child’s visit takes place through the patient portal or Healow App. This is where you and your child will go to enter our virtual waiting room! From there, the pediatrician will connect with you and your child at your scheduled appointment time, just like an in-office visit! Click here to access your patient portal through your computer.

We’re going to ask for your child’s vitals. When you and your child join the visit, you will be asked to enter information such as their height, weight and temperature.

If we’re having technical issues connecting with you, we’ll give you a call. If we’re not able to reach you through the patient portal, your child’s pediatrician will send you a text with the link to the telehealth visit. You can also message their pediatrician on the patient portal, and they will be glad to help you from there!

We’ll check you out at the end! This works similarly to an in-person appointment, except your child’s provider will officially check you out after your child’s visit is complete. If a payment is due, an office member will give you a call to collect the payment.

You can follow up through the patient portal. Are there are any other questions that come to mind after your child’s appointment? Would you like to see results for any tests? You can do all of this through the patient portal!

If you have additional questions regarding telehealth, frequently asked questions can be found here.

You can use the following resources to help you get started.  For a step-by-step guide on how to get started on both your computer or your Healow App, click here.
