10 Fun Ways to [Safely] Kick Off Summer

Saturday, June 20th was the first day of summer! While we inch closer toward creating a new normal, you can still participate in many fun activities with your family while keeping everyone safe. Try a few of these ideas to start your summer off right and make these next few months even more special.

Child-friendly ways to kick off summer:

Water balloon fight – There’s nothing like a good old water balloon fight on a hot summer day. You’ll even find that preparing the balloons has been made even easier for parents by using “water balloon fillers” that automatically do all the work for you! If you extend an invitation for other families to join, face masks should be worn to help keep germs at bay.

Chalk art - Give your kids a break from the markers and paper and let them show their creativity by making a masterpiece in your driveway.

Cookout – A small family cookout at home is another great way to bond with the ones you love while enjoying the warm weather and great food! If you have any guests over outside of your family, be sure to keep everyone physically distant by at least six feet.

Summer photo booth – Who says you need to be at a party to have a photo booth? Throw your own “party” with the kids at home to kick off summer and snap away with some fun props and filters. You can even find free downloadable printout props online!

DIY popsicles – These icy treats are super delicious and the perfect way to cool down in this Texas summer heat!

Outdoor movie night – If your family enjoys movies, try to opt for a change of scenery by creating a cozy movie theater outdoors. You can hang up a white sheet to project your movie on and watch your favorite film in the fresh air with a big, buttery bowl of popcorn. If you do invite over neighbors or extended family for your outdoor cinema, make sure to spread out seating areas by at least six feet. We always recommend wearing masks and keeping hand sanitizer handy.

Have a picnic – Grab your blankets and fill up a basket with your favorite foods to enjoy with your loved ones on a breezy day in the shade. To be safe in a crowded park, stay socially distant from other families and try to pick a low-traffic area to get settled.

Get crafty – DIY flower planters are a creative way to take your home décor to the next level, especially when they’re designed with your children.

Campfire – Take a break from the indoors by getting out for some fresh air. Gather your family around a bonfire in your backyard, tell stories and don’t forget the smores.

Bucket list – Most importantly, make sure to have a “summer bucket list” ready to get the most out of summer and create lasting memories with family.
